Smarties Filled Chocolate Easter Eggs

Can't find the right Easter Egg in the shop to buy someone?
Why not make your own unique chocolate Easter eggs that you know people will enjoy!

This year i have decided to create Smarties Filled Chocolate Easter Eggs which are small enough to enjoy as a treat.

Here is the recipe for Smarties Filled Chocolate Easter Eggs:

Makes 3 whole eggs

Ingredients
250g Milk Chocolate, plus a little extra to seal the eggs together
2 Tubes of Smarties, optional (other sweets can be used instead)
Silicone Tray of 6 egg moulds (can be purchased for Pound shops)

Method

  1. Break the chocolate into small pieces and place into a big heatproof bowl.
  2. Place a saucepan of water on the stove and allow to simmer. When the water is simmering place the bowl with the chocolate in over the saucepan to melt the chocolate.
  3. Keep stirring the chocolate so it does not burn on the bottom of the bowl. Once the chocolate has fully melted take off the saucepan and allow to cool slightly. Turn off the saucepan of water.
  4. When the chocolate has cooled slightly pour 2 tbsp of the melted chocolates into the the egg moulds. Smooth the chocolate up the sides of the moulds to make sure they are an even thickness and not full to the top with chocolate as you want to be able to fill them with the smarties once they are set.
  5. Once you have put all the chocolate in the moulds. Place the moulds in the fridge and allow them to set for 1-2 hours.
  6. When the chocolate is set, carefully get the chocolate eggs out of the moulds and match them up their other half.
  7. Melt a couple of squares of chocolate in a mug in the microwave for 30 seconds, then mix it round. Put back in the microwave if the chocolate has not fully melted for another 30 seconds, keeping an eye on the chocolate so it does not burn.
  8. Leave the chocolate to cool slightly. Fill one half of the egg with Smarties (or the sweets of your choice). Spread the melted chocolate round the edge of the egg half and then put the other half on top to seal the egg halves together. Put back in the fridge to set for 1 hour then enjoy!
